Homer AK Ferry to Kodiak- We made it!

Sunday June 30th-> Thursday July 4th

We boarded the ferry and got to our staterooms. It’s amazing how they fit the camper and brought it down on the elevator. Our staterooms had two bunks each and a little sink. Me, Lia, and Ozzie stayed in one room, and Joey and Obi stayed in another. The kids loved the bunks. We went to bed shortly after arriving on the ferry because it was so late and told the puppies goodnight. They did really well and went right to sleep (no howling to my surprise). The night was pretty good, a little rocky, but the kids slept right through. We stopped in two ports briefly, but only Joey got off to let the puppies potty. Had a nice breakfast on the ship and got off around lunchtime. Some friends from elizabeth City are stationed here, and they met us at the ferry, which was super nice.

We got to base and found out our house was ready, so we went ahead and signed the paperwork and took the keys. We put our mattresses from the camper on the floor and took what we could out of the camper. We don’t have room for it at our house, but there is a storage lot on base. We are up on a hill with a nice view and a big yard for the dogs.

The first few days were really rainy, but it cleared up and is really pretty this morning. We’ve been busy trying to get settled and work. Ozzie has been very fussy- I think we are just confused and tired with time changes. It’s also light until around midnight and our house has huge windows. We bought some black out curtains, and Joey got those installed last night to hopefully help the confusion. We have a BBQ for the 4th today, but I found out they don’t do fireworks because it doesn’t get very dark in the summer here. Ready for things to calm down, it’s been a crazy month, but we are so happy we made it. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers along our journey. I’ll post again if we do any fun hikes or sightseeing.

Happy 4th of July!
